On the 2003 edition of the (K-RAA-K)³ festival, a band dressed as clowns stole the show with a 15 minute playback performance backed up with artsy psychedelic visuals. Joe Cocksucker was their name and they were said to origin from Liechtenstein. Behind the masks were none other than your beloved portables .

Each song was constructed out of samples of Joe Cocker songs mixed with portables songs. The visuals were built around images and videofragments of Joe Cocker. Each song’s title was an anagram of “we are de portables”. Nobody noticed .

On the 10 years exhibition we showed you the disguise we used, but we just couldnt find any pictures of the event. Now the friendly people of zaal België sent us two pics of that memorable gig. Thank you! If by any chance you might have more pics of this concert, please send ‘m in!

Changement de registre ensuite avec Joe Cocksucker, groupe formé de quatre musiciens venus du Liechtenstein et annoncés comme un quatuor de laptop. On ne voit pas d’ordinateurs, mais juste une table recouverte de pédales d’effets. Quatre clowns (au sens propre) débarquent sur sc?ne pour un set énergique d’une quinzaine de minutes.

‘Joe Cocksucker’ était la surprise du jours, LE live surréaliste. Quatre clowns fantasques, serrés coudes contre coudes, occupés à triturer des fragments de chansons du Joe initial, images d’époque synchro en prime. Excellent ! Apr?s ces 20 minutes de pur délire, nous avons eu droit aux canadiens de Hanged Up : une batterie (incroyable) et un violon pour un maximum d’efficacité, une musique qui cesse de parler à la tête, pour s’adresser aux tripes. Intense.

Stunt van de dag was de enorm korte (maar briljante) set van Joe Cocksucker. De naam spreekt boekdelen: vier clowns in witte pakken die Joe Cockernummers verknippen tot IDM? Niemand weet wie het viertal is. Ze pretenderen Liechtensteins bloed te hebben maar wij vermoeden eerder dat er gentse post-rockgroep achter schuilgaat.
