machina

Another lost portables track turned up while I was checking an unlabeled tape. What first seemed like a typical 1999 self-made post-rock and electronica compilation tape turned out to contain a disregarded portables track. Nothing happened with this track anymore, I bet not a single portable even remembers it in his ‘random recollections of glorious recording spurs memory’ (RROGRSM). In the end, isn’t that what archeology is all about: uncovering the forgotten?

The track itself was actually recorded by only Hans and Jürgen. You can clearly hear a funny evalution discussion at the very end of the track. The track itself is a 10 minute droney guitar epic that resides somewhere in between Pink Floyd’s ‘Welcome to the Machine’ and Village Of Savoonga. It features an old 78-rpm record player in the intro and was recorded @ Zon i Bos on a Digital 8-track.

Meet the Bruges department of The Official de portables Fanclub. These are the guys who booked us for the show with De Kreuners and friggin’ Dana Winner. Eugene, Prosper, Philemont and friends have been a die-hard fans since the zon-i-bos tape came out.
Theogene Debruyne (1st person on the left) remembers the first gig of pre-portables band Sorbitol: “I remember it like it was yesterday. It was on my 98th birthday. I didn’t even have to wear my hearing-aid, Wio was drumming so loud”.
Prosper Dacquin (1st on the right), president of Koninklijk Comité voor initiatief van Brugge (that’s how they named their fanclub) says he looks forward to the show on the 20th of July. “If only Heinrich Gimly could be there”. Alas Gimly, the short german-norwegian de portables fanatic died last week due to the injuries of a shrapnel.

postrock is dead. There we said it! The last ten years we survived on white bread and choco and this has to change. We’ve been ripped by our record labels, betrayed by our postrock peers of toman and transit (who called us “vetzakken”) and we are left desillusionated by the current affairs in alt.post.rock. This has to stop! Therefore de portables reach out to new musical partners in crime. Goodbye Sylvester Anfang, hello Christoff, Dana Winner and de kreuners. The climax of our transformation will be on the 20th of July where we will share the stage with our new friends in Bruges. Virtue our religion and enlightment will be yours; believe us, topless is more.

The series of corporate sell-out continue as de portables signed a contract with VTM to deliver sexy loops and tunes for their newest online flash game! While we are counting our cash and enjoy the material luxury you cannot afford, you can go and play the game, inspired by the mighty subservient chicken and the musical genius from Knesselare Kohn.

Thanks to Andries Introver for making this lucrative deal happen!

Personal problems, dumped by his team, connected to a cocaine cartel… it’s not exactly fiesta time for cycler Frank Vandenbroucke. Then again, what else is new?

Long gone are the days when VDB fell in love with Sarah, was the star of the pack and shook everybody off in the Vuelta of 1999. And all that on a cool soundtrack by Hans Olo…
