This is the original record cover for “Girls Beware”. A friend, who is a photographer, took this amazing photo at the Blaarmeersen in Ghent. It wasn’t until two weeks before the official release that we had to withdraw the 50.000 printed copies because we were sued by an aggressive law firm in Ghent who claimed the design to be a copy of theirs. This sure explains why Jürgen was continiously screaming “Shark attack, Shark attack” during the photo shoot. Because as we all know, there are now sharks in the Blaarmeersen. It was only afterwards that we realized Jürgen was speaking in metaphores (again!).

While browsing through the majestic de portables archive we stumbled on record covers that never made it to the end-product, portables proto-covers we call them when we had too many red wines reading Tolstoy. Speaking of Tolstoy and prototypes, did you know the original title for “War and Peace” was “War, What Is It Good For?”.
More “de portables objects that never made it” (de portables Shoot-em-up games! de portables’ erotic lingerie! Oxford’s de portables listener companion, how to listen to de portables?) soon on your favourite website (no, not http://www.penisland.net) !

wio tino
Longtime portables devotee Juan del Pueblo discovered and instantly bought this record at a baratillo in Puerto Rico. It is a seventies record by a great sobrino of Wio, accidentally also named Wio. The record is filled with primitive bossanova love songs with a touch of rumba. The highlight of the album is “pelo el plátano”, a delicate tribute to flamenco and bananas.

what's another beer

First hour portables fan Levi Seeldrayers discovered and instantly bought this record at a local flea market, and sent us a picture of this treasure. Levi’s discovery proves what we’ve always suspected, but have been unable to prove until now: Hendrik has been an unsuccesful songfestival-contestant back in the 80s, long before he joined the Muscle forces. Why has he kept this hidden, even from us, his dear - and only - friends?

Thanks, Levi!
