Last year one of our songs, “Beauty & the Beat”, was used in a tv documentary on a bunch of people getting prepared for the New York City Marathon.

We were honored, of course. But also a bit surprised, because the director chose exactly the part where one of us is whispering some dirty words. And that on prime time national television!

Either it was a coincidence and he hadn’t noticed the phrase (for the non-Dutch speaking readers: translation on request). Or either he was telling us something about the running woman he didn’t want to say out loud.

The fact he edited the whispering part on images of the woman eating a banana, makes me think it’s the latter. But that could be me, of course.

BolleBuikBoules

Just rediscovered this old portables instrumental from the Cenneth era. Funny how the title of this song all of the sudden finally sort of gets a meaning after Hendrik’s previous post :-).

portables inner sleeve

Tuesday night Jurgen shakily handed me the final mix of the new CD. The final product, mastered, mixed, edited, sequenced and what’s more. I have listened to the CD non-stop at work, a welcome change from the hours of free-folk and non-stop talking at wfmu, so here it is, my unsalted opinion on the new CD.

We know wio as a great friend, a father, the sexy portable, de lange neuze and also a - yes! - singer songwriter of lo-fi popsongs. The Mountain Goats and Lou Barlow are his greatest fans, he has been asked to release a record on EMI and Thurston moore has all his tapes but despite all this attention Wio seldomly plays live or records solo anymore. That’s why we were so excited when Ovil Bianca handed us a live recording of a show Wio did in September 2002 in Liège. Read more to listen to the how and admire the setlist :-) (more…)
