About the Album

Disturbed. Perturbed. One minute deranged psychedelia. The next weird hillbilly death trailer tunes. Sometimes sounds cut with clear-as-day clarity. Others are, frankly, worrying. Super Reverb are a duo: Jurgen De Blonde of Kohn fame and Michael Beckett of kptmichigan. So far they’ve released one single (the bone crunching Shellac meets Jon Spencer Blues ‘Jack Potatoe’,  ‘Hey Mr. Rambler’ both featured here). Avant Garde tests your patience, puts you through your paces, is defiantly uneven, crooked and without boundaries, yet curiously fixating in a warped Butthole Surfers kinda of way. From the minute the free-wheeling abstract off-kilter Fall-esque opener ‘Theme from Captain Carrot’ and the curious off balance lazy-eyed ‘Hey Mr. Rambler’ veer into view you are immediately put on alert that a strange brew is at work and yet when they do settle down for drunken nuggets like ‘Sunday Groovy Sunday’ (or the Beefheart meets Zappa meets Zorn curiosity ‘Da Blues’) they warm the listening space with an unusual candor that’s both alluring and puzzling.
